Channel 5: Derek Jeter Touts Weplay on ABC’s “GMA”

Yankees slugger Derek Jeter made an appearance on ABC’s “GMA” last week to promote Opening Day for the youth sports-focused social network Weplay. Also, Paul Rosen tapped for Gatorade Canada campaign, John Deere Classic sends a charity message, Laureus gearing up for 2009, and grassroots program Just Like You using sports to influence youth.

Weplay: New York Yankees SS Derek Jeter helped Weplay celebrate Opening Day with a recent segment on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” Weplay exists to enable and enhance the joy of sports for kids, families and coaches both online and on the field. The group has built a fun, educational, informative and safe Web site that allows people to connect, share, learn and have fun. In addition to Jeter, other athletes supporting Weplay include Jennie Finch, LeBron James and Peyton Manning (Weplay).

G Moments: Gatorade Cananda has signed Team Canada sledge hockey netminder Paul Rosen to be among the new faces of Gatorade for campaign that kicked off March 20. Rosen is featured in a video talking about what “G” means to him. Gatorade Canada VP of Marketing Dale Hooper, on the campaign: “Just like in the US, the Canadian Gatorade brand is recognizing some of our nation’s most influential and inspiring athletes. These athletes represent Canada’s best while also serving as motivation to any Canadian who sweats” (Gatorade Canada).

Just Like You: Just Like You promotes international awareness among youth through sport, laying the foundation for the informed worldview necessary to be successful global citizens. The organization is part of a generation that sees youths’ exposure to the global community as indispensable to not only to their ability to compete in the future global marketplace, but also to incease cultural understanding and promote peace (Just Like You).

Laureus Sport for Good: Laureus Sport for Good Foundation features its 2009 promotional video, sharing the story of an organization that uses the power of sport to help tackle pressing social challenges through a worldwide program of sports related community development initiatives. Laureus attracts groups of people who share a belief in the power of sport to break down barriers, to engage with others and to change the world for the better. It seeks to inspire hope and positive change for children around the world using sport as a unique social vehicle (Laureus Sport for Good Foundation).

John Deere Classic: The John Deere Classic is like all stops on the PGA Tour. The event’s title sponsor, John Deere, has a built-in component to support local charities in Illinois. This video opened the CBS Sports broadcast of the event (John Deere Classic).
