Soccer: Sounders FC Partners with Nothing But Nets

Seattle Sounders

The Seattle Sounders FC have partnered with Nothing But Nets to launch a Bed Net fundraising campaign by inviting fans to make a donation at the March 28 Sounders FC match at the Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field. Fans contributed at ticket gates, the Pro Shop at Qwest Field or through soundersfc.com. Donations go directly toward the purchase, distribution and education about the proper use of a bed net, which can prevent malaria. The month-long campaign will culminate on World Malaria Day on April 25th.

Sounders FC Owner Joe Roth: “Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria. The Nothing But Nets drive provides our organization an opportunity to build awareness and raise money for a preventable disease that impacts our world. We challenge our fans and supporters to join us in the campaign” (Seattle Sounders FC).

U.S. Soccer Foundation: The U.S. Soccer Foundation has made $1.2 million in funds available to 27 groups in 16 states and the District of Columbia as part of its 15th annual grants program. The 2009 grants continue the Foundation’s focus on improving the health and well being of children in urban economically disadvantaged areas using soccer as a vehicle for social change. The grants will help pay for field development, uniforms, player equipment, travel costs, facility rental, registration costs, and training for players, coaches and referees (U.S. Soccer Foundation).
